#Right2Housing Activists Highlight Government Inaction on the Housing Crisis

Today the Right 2 Housing campaign displayed banners on empty properties around the country to highlight the need for a radical response to the housing crisis.

With 100,000 families on the housing list across the country, and more than 620 families, including 1,300 children, homeless, we urgently need to tackle the housing crisis. As the number of available rental properties this year reached its lowest point since the start of 2006, while rents continue to spiral out of control, the private rental market is utterly incapable of responding to the need for housing. People Before Profit Cork calls on the government to convert vacant properties into social housing, to build council houses, and to introduce rent controls. Today local activists displayed a banner outside the Elysian Tower in Cork City Centre as part of a national campaign to highlight the prevalence of vacant properties throughout the country.
