We Urgently Need Proper Paediatric Urologly Care
Jim O’Connell, People Before Profit candidate in Cork South-Central is calling on people to support the Cork Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association in their campaign for action.
“I and People Before Profit in Cork support the call by the Cork Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association for greater investment in paediatric urology services. Currently there is no dedicated paediatric urologist in Ireland. The lack of an adequate service poses a major risk to the future health of children with spina bifida. The failure to invest in providing an effective service will mean that many children may have to deal with problems with their kidneys later in life.
Currently there are 500 children awaiting outpatient treatment for urological issues in Cork and 51 children awaiting in-hospital treatment. The Cork Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association demands the immediate filling of vacant consultant positions in Cork and Dublin and the provision of effective services to meet the needs of children with urological issues.
This issue must be urgently addressed.”
